Two Cute Houses Under $400,000

These classic homes have a lot of charm at an affordable price. Read more about my favorite features of these houses and what I think you could do to make them your own. Cheverly and Hyattsville are both great neighborhoods to watch. If they aren't in your search area yet, you should definitely add them!

6101 Forest Road, Cheverly, MD $350,000

Cheverly is such a pretty neighborhood and this sweet Rembrandt model Sears kit home sits up on a hill with expansive views all around. I love the original architectural details such as the natural, stained wood trim throughout, hardwood floors, original fireplace mantle, wood frame windows and tall ceilings. The entrance feels very gracious and light-filled. Looking to the right your see through the living room with a fireplace out to the cozy sun porch. To the left there is a formal dining room with an enormous kitchen beyond. You could renovate the kitchen into a spectacular showcase entertaining and cooking space! Up an attractive staircase are three sunny bedrooms that share a updated bathroom. Although there is definitely room for improvement by modernizing the kitchen and bathrooms, I really appreciate that you could move in right away and be very comfortable until you are ready to remodel.

4224 Nicholson Street, Hyattsville, MD $339,000

This little stretch of Nicholson is one of my favorite streets in Hyattsville. I like the diversity of classic house styles you find here. It is also very well located within walking distance to Busboys & Poets, Franklin's, or Vigilante Coffee. Though the house is compact, it has classic architectural details plus many features that make is very comfortable including a welcoming front porch and a large, open-plan kitchen. The two main floor bedrooms share a cleverly configured bathroom. With the laundry on the main level, this house is wonderful for someone looking for single level living. There is also plenty of space upstairs for storage or a kid's play area. Though there is only one bathroom, I'm sure that the laundry area off the back could be reconfigured with a stacked washer and dryer which would then allow enough room for a small power room.
