There is a lot to do when you decide to sell your house. You might be wracked with indecision about where to start. I have an easy way to get you going and once you start you will be surprised at the snowball effect of just getting the first actions taken.
No matter what....everything in your house will have to go somewhere else. If you don't know where to start, then you should start with packing.
Gather your supplies
Here is your shopping list: 20 bankers boxes, 20 medium moving boxes, packing tape, heavy black trash bags, white trash bags, thick black markers
Splurge on boxes
Bankers boxes are expensive but they are worth it. They are easy to assemble and come with easily removable lids. These are the boxes you need to use for your paperwork. You can feel confident about starting with these because they don't need to be taped shut and they stay easily on top of each other. If you need to look for something you don't have to rip open boxes to do so.
I really suggest that you splurge on 20 new medium size packing boxes and high quality packing tape. The boxes come flat and don't take up much room. If you scrounge boxes at this point, your house will fill with a hodge podge of boxes and you will feel even more overwhelmed than before you started. The tape is worth it too. A well-operating tape dispenser that tears off the tape easily without having the edge get stuck on the roll will be so satisfying.
Markers and trash bags
Thick black markers are fun to write with but they are also easier to spot in a confusing pile of items that you have assembled together to pack.
Black trash bags. These are for your donation items.
White trash bags are for obvious garbage. Your recycling will probably mostly be paper at this point, so keep that in a pile or bring your recycling bin in with you while you work.
Momentum
You will be amazed at how quickly you will make progress when you get the ball rolling!
Don't wait to call me at 240-413-4141 even in the middle of packing. I can give you helpful advice on what kids of repairs, clean up and staging you will want to consider when it is time to hit the market.
I'm Tamara Beauchard - realtor and guide
Too many people have been through the horrible process of selling their homes without understanding what price they can expect and how they are supposed to make their homes look for showings. The problem isn't the people selling their homes, the problem is that they needed a better guide.
How can I be your guide? As a top-performing realtor with Re/Max Professionals, I handled nearly $16 million in real estate transactions this past year. I stay on top of the market to ensure that you are confident about the price and the process from our first meeting to the settlement table.
