Be a Gift Giver
One of the more interesting piles I discover in my clients’ homes are gifts.
My mom had a full closet devoted to gifts. She would but things at an extraordinary discount and then stash them away in her gift closet. Vibrating foots massagers, socks with unusual images like a beaver eating a taco, etc. Tons of kids clothes! When she needed a gift, she just went to her gift closet. Recently she cleared out the gift closet and doesn’t do that any more. She has decided that people have too much stuff as it is and it isn’t really very beneficial for her to give them something that is obviously not that useful (it wouldn’t have been on deep clearance to begin with if it was) to clutter their own houses.
I see a lot of this in people’s homes.
I have this to some extent.
I think that we have to understand what a gift is and the time commitment in finding, storing, preparing and giving a gift.
It may be better to give something disposable in the moment. Flowers, food, gift card, etc.
Most importantly, if you have those objects laying around, give them. Let them go. See what it feels like, find out how much time it takes from you.
Develop a philosophy of gift giving….
